</pre> Today's sessions marked the official on-track debut of the spectacular new #51 Excite@Home Indy Race Car. The vibrant red, black, and silver Infiniti-powered machine was unveiled yesterday at a press conference announcing the Internet giant's two-year partnership with the Cheever organization, a relationship destined to revolutionize the way fans enjoy racing.

The Excite@Home Indy Race Team made steady progress throughout the day, with Eddie Cheever Jr. touring the 1-mile Phoenix oval in 21.609 seconds for a top speed of 166.597mph. Cheever posted his fast lap with a heavy fuel load - the team was focused on fine-tuning its race set-up - and still emerged less than 0.7 seconds behind Stephan Gregoire, who recorded the quickest lap of the day.

Cheever: "This is the first time we've run here, and we're still learning. We received our Dallara chassis last week, and we only ran 80 laps during testing at Las Vegas on Wednesday. Since we're pretty far behind, we're already concentrating on the race, so we were running with a heavy fuel load.

The track was a little slower in the afternoon. We figured out a lot between the two sessions and we have a much better balance than we did in the morning. We have a lot of push right now, but the car is consistent all the way around the track. It was a good first day."
