PHOENIX, (March 21 2004)---Today was a tough day on the one-mile oval of Phoenix International Raceway for Kelley Racing and driver Scott Sharp. Sharp, driver of the No. 8 Delphi entry, started 19th in today's Copper World Indy 200 and on a fast oval like PIR knew he would have a tough time staying on the lead lap. Unfortunately, Sharp did drop a lap quite quickly and despite good pit stops and aggressive driving, Sharp was unable to make up the lost ground. He eventually finished the race three laps down and in 13th position. Tony Kanaan won today's event for the second year in a row, while Scott Dixon finished second and Dan Wheldon finished third.
The team will now return to the shop in Indianapolis to prepare for their next event at Twin Ring Motegi, Japan to be held on April 17.
Scott Sharp, No. 8 Delphi/Dallara/Toyota/Firestone---Fast Facts and Quote
"Today was a very tough day for the Delphi team. It's tough when you leave warm-up on the wrong end of the time sheet to think you're going to have a great racecar but the Delphi team did everything we could today. The guys made good changes between warm-up and the race and the crew gave me great pit stops. We beat guys out of the pits and there were times when we were very competitive with our lap times but we had just lost so much ground in the beginning. But the positive of today is we have four wheels on the car and we'll move on to the next race."
