PHOENIX, (March 20 2004)---Kelley Racing and driver Scott Sharp were scheduled to roll off first in today's qualifying for the Copper World Indy 200. After taking an initial lap, the decision was made that track conditions were not favorable and the attempt was aborted. By doing this, Sharp was moved to the end of the qualifying line and only given one timed lap. Unfortunately, this strategy didn't pay off as Sharp's one lap effort left him 19th with a time of 21.4142-seconds/168.113 mph. At the top of the speed chart today was Dan Wheldon with a time of 20.5974-seconds/174.779 mph.
Final practice for the Copper World Indy 200 will be tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. The green flag for the Copper World Indy 200 is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and will be televised live on ABC.
Speed: 168.113 mph

Scott Sharp, No. 8 Delphi/Dallara/Toyota/Firestone---Fast Facts and Quote
"Our initial warm-up lap was slow and knowing that we were the first IndyCar out after the Silver Crowns had run, we knew we were going to be picking up a lot of rubber. So we felt that if we finished our run we wouldn't be as quick so our plan going into qualifying had been if that initial lap was slow we would abort which we did. But then when I went out for my one lap attempt, the car got very loose coming into the green so I rolled off the gas a bit and I knew that I had killed my qualifying run. It will be tough to get to the front on this one-mile oval but I know that the whole Delphi crew will give their best effort tomorrow."
*This will be Sharp's 84th career start, his 76th consecutive IndyCar start--both IRL records-- and his seventh season with Kelley Racing and his eighth IndyCar season.
*In 2003 he started 11th and finished seventh. Sharp has one victory in Phoenix, 1998 and a second place finish in 1996. In 2002, he started 15th and finished 16th after an accident. In 2001, he started 10th and finished fourth.
*Sharp finished 2003 in eighth place in the IndyCar Series championship with 351 points. Sharp completed 3,175 laps during the season, more than any other IndyCar Series driver.
*Sharp's victory in April 2003 at Twin Ring Motegi, Japan was his eighth career victory. He is the only IRL IndyCar Series driver to have won at least one event in each year of competition.
*Sharp was the 1996 IndyCar Series co-champion and the 2001 Indianapolis 500 MBNA Pole winner.
