Goodyear Qualifies 3rd for Phoenix MCI Worldcom 200
Phoenix, AZ---Scott Goodyear put the Pennzoil Panther Racing G-Force #4 on the 2nd row for tomorrow's Pep Boys Indy Racing League Phoenix MCI Worldcom 200. Goodyear posted a qualifying time of 20.624 seconds, 174.554 miles per hour, which was good for 3rd fastest overall. "We had a good lap, not a great lap and the car has been consistent but I'm eager to get this car in traffic and race." Said driver Scott Goodyear. "I feel confident at Phoenix International Raceway since I earned my first pole position in an Indy car here in 1993."
The Panther "Pack" were a bit faster today than they were in late February at PIR during the "Test in the West" where they ran a 20.695, 173.955 miles per hour. Andy Brown, Chief Engineer for Pennzoil Panther Racing has been very pleased with the test and practice results thus far. "The team has been able to replicate their set-up from testing which is a reflection of the dedication and skill of this crew. PIR is tricky since track conditions can change so dramatically with the temperatures and so it's been a confidence builder for the team and Scott to come back here and run consistently."
The Pennzoil Panther Racing G-Force #4 and Scott Goodyear will line up tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. for the start of the Phoenix MCI Worldcom 200. The top qualifiers from today were Greg Ray, pole position, 20.323 seconds, 177.139 miles per hour and Mark Dismore, in 2nd, at 20.616 seconds, 174.622 miles per hour.
The Phoenix MCI Worldcom 200 will be the 21st start in the Pep Boys Indy Racing League for driver Scott Goodyear.
