Avondale, AZ 0x2022 Buddy Lazier finished 11th in the Purex Dial Indy 200 at Phoenix International Raceway March 23, his first start of the 2003 IRL IndyCar season.

Starting 15th, Lazier was pleased with the overall performance of his No. 91 Delta Faucet/Life Fitness Chevrolet-powered Dallara.

"We had a real good day going," said the 1996 Indy 500 winner. "I thought maybe we had a top-five run going. There on the last pit stop, when we came out, I picked up a big vibration, and as a result, I slid up into the marbles. We didn't know what was going on."

Lazier remained on track for several laps before pulling onto pit lane. The Hemelgarn team discovered debris on the left front tire, replaced it and sent Buddy out to finish the remaining laps of the 200-lap event.

"The debris caused a big vibration in the tire. It really hurt our race. We dropped back to 11th after losing two laps. I really thought something was coming apart."

Despite the minor setback, Lazier was excited to be back in the car.

"We had a fairly strong run, and I think we caught up a lot this weekend."

Tony Kanaan became the IndyCar Series latest winner in a race slowed by six accidents.

The next IRL IndyCar Series race is the Indy Japan 300 on April 13 at Twin Ring Motegi in Motegi, Japan.
