Dixon qualifies 3rd in Phoenix.
Scott Dixon continued his impressive early season run today, qualifying 3rd for tomorrow's Purex Dial Indy 200 at Phoenix International Raceway. Dixon's lap of 177.661 mph was third to only Tony Kanaan and Felipe Giaffone. Dixon was happy with his run.
"It wasn't too bad," Dixon said. "I got a little squirrely in turn 2 and lost a little bit of speed. We might have been right there for the pole if that didn't happen, but it's still pretty good. Team Target has given me a fast car all weekend and I'm happy about our run today. We have been working a lot on race setup this weekend. The car has been pretty consistent in race trim during our practices and I'm excited about our chances tomorrow."
Tomas Scheckter scored his 12th top-10 starting spot in the last 14 races with a lap of 176.441 mph, good enough for 9th on the grid. The South African was hoping for a better starting position, but is confident going into tomorrow's 200 lap event.
"We didn't have the best run today, but I'm happy with how things are going," said Scheckter. "They are talking about making turn two a little wider, I wish they would have done it today (laugh). We were a little loose there that hurt us. I'm still learning the team and they are still learning me. There's no doubt in my mind that after a few races, we'll be challenging for poles and wins week in and week out. There's a bit a of a learning process with a new team. We have a decent race car, so we'll see what happens in the race tomorrow."
