Phoenix, AZ -- Buddy Lazier and Hemelgarn Racing return to Phoenix International Raceway and IRL IndyCar Series competition in the Purex Dial Indy 200 on Sunday, March 23.

Having missed the season opener in Miami, the 2000 Indy Racing League champions have a tough road ahead of them but are ready for the challenge. During a recent test at the 1-mile desert oval, the team spent much of their track time getting familiarized with the new 2003 Chevy Indy V8 and Dallara chassis.

Lazier, who will drive the No. 91 Hemelgarn Racing Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone entry, has experienced the highest highs and lowest lows at Phoenix. In 1996, he suffered multiple fractures in his back during practice and missed the event. However, Lazier celebrated in victory lane in 2000, having won from the 26th and last starting position -- a first in league history.

The main focus for Lazier and his Hemelgarn team - finish in the top-five and earn valuable points toward the series title chase.

Lazier on Phoenix:

"Over the weekend, we tested more than 120 miles at Phoenix and a lot of those miles were spent just getting comfortable in the new race car. The miles we ran were successful and we've learned a lot so our day of testing went very well. Nevertheless, with our late start, we have some catching up to do. We're definitely looking forward to racing at Phoenix again. My race team and I have won at Phoenix before and we certainly can do it again. The 2003 IndyCar Series is going to be very exciting."
