Ward, Heritage join Infiniti camp: Jeff Ward and Heritage Motorsports will join Robbie Buhl, Eddie Cheever, Jr., and Greg Ray in driving the Infiniti Indy 35A V8 engine in the rescheduled Chevy 500, the Indy Racing Northern Light Series season finale Oct. 6 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Veteran Ward will drive the No. 35 Heritage Motorsports Firestone Menards G Force/Infiniti/Firestone. It will be the first time since the 1997 Indianapolis 500 that Infiniti has fielded more than three entrants in an Indy Racing League event.
"I am really looking forward to racing with the Infiniti engine," Ward said. "We have tested the Infiniti engine three times now, at Kentucky, Chicago and Texas. I am very impressed with the power and the higher torque band of the engine. I have also noticed the strong performance of the engine this year with Robbie and Eddie. It will be a good engine to have at Texas because of the draft that you have there."
Treadway-Hubbard welcomes Big Tex: Big Tex Trailers, a Texas-based trailer manufacturer and related parts supplier, will join the Treadway-Hubbard Racing team for the season-ending Chevy 500 on Oct. 5-6 at Texas Motor Speedway as the title sponsor for the team's No. 5 G Force/Oldsmobile/Firestone entry driven by rookie Rick Treadway. The Chevy 500, originally scheduled for Sept. 16, was postponed until this weekend due to the terrorist attacks Sept. 11 in America. "We are excited and proud to have Big Tex on board for this race," Treadway said. "We hope the fans will enjoy the race and take a brief departure from their grief."
Big Tex Trailer Manufacturing, Inc. is the leading utility trailer manufacturing company in the United States and has been manufacturing trailers since 1976. The success of Big Tex Trailers recently earned company president and CEO Ricky Baker the Entrepreneur of the Year award in his home state of Texas.
"We are excited to be sponsoring Treadway-Hubbard Racing and becoming a part of the Indy Racing League," Baker said. "We consider our operations to be first class, so it would only be fitting for us to establish this relationship with such a first-class race team. We are looking forward to our first race in Texas this weekend."
