The Indianapolis News reported on Sunday that a USAC source has said that Nissan has agreed to provide engines for the IRL in 1997.

The January 31 deadline for new engines was extended apparently because one upper level Nissan official was not in agreement. He has been convinced according the USAC source.

This will give the IRL two engines. Oldsmobile has agreed to build an Aurora engine. The gasoline version won the Rolex 24 hours of Daytona last weekend.
