THREE IRL NIGHT RACES TO BE TELEVISED

Indianapolis, May 25, 1997 -- The first ever running of Indianapolis-style cars under lights will be televised in a series of three 500K beginning June 7, Indy Racing League officials announced today.

The True Value 500 at Texas Motor Speedway near Fort Worth will kick off the series on ESPN2 at 9:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday, June 7 in the initial major series night race at the new track. The Texas Motor Speedway has the second largest seating capacity next to Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Charlotte 500 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway will air on CBS at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday, July 27, tape-delayed from the Saturday night running. This will be the first IRL race on the fabled track which normally plays host to the stars of the NASCAR circuit.

The Las Vegas 500 will be shown on Sunday, October 12 at 4 p.m. EDT on ABC, taped delayed from Saturday night. The IRL inaugurated the Las Vegas Speedway last year in a daytime race. It will be the season finale for the IRL circuit, which numbers eight races this year.

"We are really looking forward to running at night," said Leo Mehl, executive director of the Indy Racing League. "It's good for the fans and good for the sport, and all three of these tracks are terrific, exactly the kind of venues the Indy Racing League is proud to run."
