NAZARETH, PA (April 20, 2002) - Notes from the Firestone Indy 225 at Nazareth Speedway:

Sunday's race will be the first race where all over the wall team members must wear protective headgear. The headgear, which must be approved by the IRL, "must not impede vision or otherwise interfere with their ability to perceive hazards."

Telemetry used by race teams indicates the distance around Nazareth Speedway as .93447 of a mile. Indy Racing League qualifying software, which permits measurement to the third decimal point, will only allow a five or zero as the last digit. Therefore, speeds will be measured using a distance of .935 of a mile.

The Bridgestone/Firestone Corporation announced this morning a $15,000 donation to "The Unser Children's Discovery Center and Racing Museum" in Albuquerque, N.M. The Unser Children's Discovery Center and Racing Museum is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate both children and adults about the history and development of the internal combustion engine and the role of motorsports in developing the passenger car. Construction is slated to begin this summer.

Al Unser Jr., who turned 40 years-old on Friday, was surprised by a party at the Kelley Racing Hospitality coach, which was attended by members of Kelley Racing, Team Penske and the Indy Racing League.

Eliseo Salazar, who was injured while testing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, has been released from Methodist Hospital in Indianapoli
