Matsuura Begins Nazareth Speedway Learning Curve

Kosuke Matsuura [Kohs-kay Mat-sur-ah] turned his first laps at Nazareth Speedway today as the IRL IndyCar® Series prepares for its 100th race this Sunday -- the Firestone Indy 225. Matsuura ended the day with the 19th fastest time overall after taking a step-by-step approach to learning the tricky one-mile oval. His best lap of 21.0200 160.133 mph was seven-tenths of a second off the fastest time of the day with the 22 cars on track covered by only 0.9855 seconds.

Weather: For the first practice session, mostly cloudy with temperatures at 79 F and winds out of the west at 10 mph; for the start of the second 45-minute practice session, partly cloudy and humid with temperatures at 83 F and south-southwest winds at 10 mph.

Kosuke Matsuura, #55 Panasonic ARTA Panoz G Force/Honda/Firestone:

"My engineer, John Dick, did a very good job today but after my crash at Pikes Peak, my confidence is down a little bit. This track is pretty difficult and it is the first time here for me. I am trying to do it step by step. I think I will be better tomorrow, for sure, and I will be pushing at my maximum. This is the first day, so I am not worried. The track is very interesting. I think the race might be very difficult, but it is the same for everybody and I am going to push more."
