INDIANAPOLIS, Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004 -- Dan Wheldon claimed his third victory of the season, winning the Firestone Indy 225 at Nazareth Speedway, the 100th race in IRL IndyCar® Series history.

Wheldon took the lead on Lap 146 after the No. 26 Klein Tools/Jim Beam Dallara/Honda/Firestone beat No. 11 Team 7-Eleven Dallara/Firestone driven by his Andretti Green Racing teammate Tony Kanaan, out of the pits.

Wheldon led the final 79 laps to become the final race winner at Nazareth Speedway. The track will be closing to all spectator motorsports events after the Aug. 29 race.

Kanaan, the IndyCar Series points leader, and Dario Franchitti finished second and third, respectively, to complete an Andretti Green Racing sweep. It was the first 1-2-3 finish by teammates in IndyCar Series history.

Kanaan leads the IndyCar Series points standings by 74 points over Wheldon, and 78 points over Indianapolis 500 winner Buddy Rice, who finished fourth.
