Penske pair claims front row gor Firestone Indy 225
Today's qualifying session for the Firestone Indy 225 at Nazareth Speedway saw Marlboro Team Penske teammates Gil de Ferran and Helio Castroneves claim the front row positions, with de Ferran fastest at 172.776 mph while Castroneves clocked a 172.587 mph lap.
Quote from Al Speyer, Firestone Motorsports Executive Director: "This is a special track for Roger Penske so we knew his team would give it 110 percent to do well this weekend. He earned his 100th win here on Firestone tires two years ago, and he'd like to keep adding to his total of victories. We're especially pleased to be sponsoring this race, and given the competitiveness throughout the IRL field, we think the fans are set to see an awesome event Sunday. The Firehawk for this race is new for 2002 IRL competition, with impressive grip and durability. We think it will play an important role as cars maneuver through the traffic on this demanding short oval."
Quote from Marlboro Team Penske Driver Gil de Ferran (Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone): "The car has a lot of grip and the tires are consistent, so that helped with our set up. This track will always have a special place in my heart. I earned my first win with Team Penske here and that was his 100th win, so it's a place I will always remember."
Bridgestone/Firestone Trust Fund Announcement: The Bridgestone/Firestone Trust Fund today announced a $15,000 contribution to support the planned Unser Children's Discovery Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
