INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (August 19, 2003) -- Dan Wheldon and the Klein Tools/Jim Beam crew are hoping to use some home track advantage during the Firestone Indy 225 at Nazareth Speedway to get the 25-year-old rookie driver his first win.
With the one-mile oval nearly in team owner Michael Andretti's backyard, Wheldon is planning on drawing from Andretti's vast experience at the track. Wheldon also tested for the first time at the track last week, giving him first-hand knowledge of how hard it is to run fast there. The Emberton, England native is coming off of two consecutive top-ten finishes and three top-tens in the last four races. .
Qualifying for Round 13 of the 16 race Indy Racing League (IRL) IndyCar Series will take place on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (EDT). Pre-race coverage for the Firestone Indy 225 will begin at Noon (EDT) on ESPN2 with "IRL2Day". The green flag is scheduled to fly at 3 p.m. (EDT) and the race will be broadcast live on ABC.

"Nazareth is a difficult track and it's going to be my first time there. The Klein Tools/Jim Beam team is going to concentrate on learning as much as we can. I think we will be pretty quick, but I think it will be similar to St. Louis where we will get quicker and quicker as the weekend progresses. I'm sure Michael (Andretti) has done a lot of miles around Nazareth so he has a good understanding of the track and I know he'll keep an eye on me. The Klein Tools/Jim Beam crew is very good and certainly that helps me a lot and Tony Cotman always has us on the right strategy, so we'll do the best we can and hopefully we'll get another top-five."
Tony Cotman, Team Manager, Klein Tools/Jim Beam
"Dan learned a lot at the test in Nazareth and hopefully we can apply that during the race weekend. Qualifying will be difficult because the track is so different. Our goal is to have a good race car and be able to go the distance. We still need to get as much experience on the short tracks as we can, so we need to make sure we finish the race."
