Matsuura Ready for a Change of Tune in Nashville
Kosuke Matsuura [Kohs-kay Mat-sur-ah] is hoping the third time is a charm as the IRL IndyCar® Series heads to Music City this weekend for the third and final night race of the 2004 season -- the Firestone Indy 200. The Bombardier Rookie of the Year points leader saw promising runs fall short in the previous night races, with a mechanical problem in Texas after qualifying a strong fourth and a costly stop-and-go penalty in Richmond.
With an all road-racing background, Matsuura has proved to be a quick study in his first season of IndyCar Series competition with solid results in the first quarter and Bank One Rookie of the Year honors at the Indianapolis 500. He will be making his eighth career oval start at Nashville Superspeedway this Saturday, a challenging 1.33-mile concrete tri-oval which hosted its first IndyCar Series race in 2001. Nashville is home to Firestone, the official tire of the Indy Racing League.
* Will be making his eighth IRL IndyCar Series career start
* Currently leads the Bombardier Rookie of the Year standings by 29 points
* Currently sits 15th in the championship point standings, 26 points out of the top 10
* Claimed best starting position to date of fourth at Texas and Japan
* Posted best finishing position to date of eighth in Japan
Kosuke Matsuura, #55 Panasonic ARTA Panoz G Force/Honda/Firestone:
"This will be my first race at Nashville Superspeedway and I am hoping to do well. We are entering the second half of the season, and it is important to get good results. I would like to finish the race in a good position. We were not able to finish two of the last three races, and I am hoping that we have used up all of our bad luck. I am ready to turn things around at Nashville."
