Nashville: Richie Hearn posted his best finish this season, 4th, in his #20 Sam Schmidt Motorsports entry in the Firestone Indy 200 from the Nashville Superspeedway Saturday night. Hearn had run as high as second and challenged for the lead late in the race before being shuffled back to fourth.
"Well, we're best in class again," said Hearn. "All the cars in front of us have the benefit of a factory engine deal that's worth 20 horsepower off the corners and it showed those last few laps. Those guys just drove around me on the outside. It didn't help that we lost 5th and 6th gear early in the race and had to run all night in 4th gear. I'd get a run on guys and get into the rev limiter and I was stuck. The entire team did a great job this weekend and we made a great strategy call to help with track position. We had our best starting position and best finish this weekend and there is more to come. We've definitely picked up the intensity. Sooner or later, people are going to recognize just how good this team is and what we've done with the resources we have."
Hearn has finished in the top-ten in 5 of the 7 races he has run for Sam Schmidt Motorsports this season. He has finished in the top 14 in every race and has been running at the end of every race. The team is now 8th in season entrant points. The next race is the Michigan Indy 400 from the Michigan International Speedway on July 28th. The race can be seen on ABC television at 3 p.m. EDT.
