Meira Tackles Nashville with New Team Sponsor

NASHVILLE, Ten. (July 13, 2006) -- Panther Racing driver Vitor Meira is ready for the challenge of Nashville Superspeedway's concrete oval, especially considering his team is announcing its newest sponsor tomorrow at 12:15 p.m. Meira will join Panther co-owner John Barnes and a representative from the team's newest partner in the Nashville media center tomorrow between practice sessions.

Former Panther driver Tomas Scheckter started from the pole position here last year after qualifications were rained out. Panther drivers finished ninth (Buddy Lazier), 17th (Scheckter), and 23rd (Tomas Enge).

Meira led 113 laps at Nashville in 2004, the most laps he's ever led in one event. He finished 12th in that race, his best finish at the track.

The Firestone Indy 200 will be held on Saturday, July 15. The race will be broadcast live on ESPN at 9 p.m. (EDT) with additional coverage provided by the IMS Radio Network and XM Satellite Radio Channel 145.

Vitor Meira Quote:

"I like Nashville. It's a hard race and you know that if late in the race you get off line that you are going to crash. That's just how this track is. The good thing is that this place never changes; you know it's going to be the same year-to-year. It's always the same bumps here and the track always stays the same.
