Matsuura Excited for Nashville Return
Kosuke Matsuura and the Super Aguri Fernandez Racing team head to Nashville this weekend for the final night race of the 2006 IndyCar Series season -- the Firestone Indy™ 200. Matsuura claimed his best result on the 1.33-mile concrete tri-oval in 2004 with a ninth-place run. He looked poised to improve on that result last year, but saw a potential top-six finish end with only 24 laps remaining when he was the victim of an unusual incident involving contact with an official vehicle.
Matsuura is hoping for better fortune in his third career start at Nashville Superspeedway. With five top-eight finishes to his credit this season to date, Matsuura is in the middle of a tight points battle and is looking to make up some ground this Saturday night. He is currently ninth in the championship standings with only six points separating the sixth through 11th positions.
Kosuke Matsuura, #55 Panasonic ARTA Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"I am looking forward to the race this weekend. Nashville is a challenging track and it is quite bumpy, but we have had very good cars on the bigger ovals. If we didn't have some bad luck here last year, we could have had a top-six finish. We have had some good runs so far this year but with only six races left, we need to be working to be consistently in the top five at the end. I will do my best and work for a strong result this weekend."
