STRONG SHOWING FOR VISION RACING IN BRIDGESTONE INDY JAPAN 300 PRACTICE
MOTEGI, Japan -- In spite of a day that brought rain, wind, sunshine, and ranging temperatures, Vision Racing was able to take advantage of a break in the weather to record 70 laps of solid practice for the Bridgestone Indy Japan 300 at Twin Ring Motegi. Rain washed out much of the day, but as the rain passed through and the sun and wind helped to quickly dry the track, teams were able to able to complete the day's only practice session late in the afternoon in preparation for the third Indy Racing League IndyCar Series event of the 2006 season.
During the practice session cool air blanketed the Japanese landscape, but Vision Racing drivers Tomas Scheckter and Ed Carpenter stayed hot and got up to speed quickly. Scheckter was 4th fastest overall on the day in the #2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone and Carpenter was 13th quick in the #20 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone.
The team is excited about a full day of practice and qualifying tomorrow and hopes for a clear weather forecast to really bring the speed out in the cars. Both Scheckter and Carpenter are excited about what lies ahead and know that they have more speed to show during Friday's track activity. Friday begins with another practice session from 9:30-11:00 a.m. (GMT plus 9), qualifying for the Bridgestone Indy Japan 300 begins at 12:30p.m. (GMT plus 9) and the day concludes with practice from 3:45-5:45 p.m. (GMT plus 9).
Tomas Scheckter -- #2 Dallara/Honda/Firestone
On practice session: "It was a good run to be honest. The car was good straight out the box and as a driver that's all you can ask for. We'll carry on some of this momentum from today into tomorrow and hopefully that will translate into a good qualifying position."
Ed Carpenter -- #20 Dallara/Honda/Firestone
On practice session: "Practice was good. Actually, all of the drivers went and did a talk show at the track this afternoon while it rained and I didn't think we were going to get practice today, so I think it was good for all of us to get out here and run. The car felt really good. There's a little speed left in me yet, but I think we got off to a good start. The car feels better than when I left here last year so I think we will have a good weekend."
On focus for practice and qualifying on Friday: "Hopefully the weather is a little more consistent tomorrow. We want to work on the racecar tomorrow. We also will work on some qualifying stuff to see what we've got, but then we'll go back to the race set up. I think we are in good shape."
