Franchitti Qualifies Eighth in ArcaEx Car at Twin Ring Motegi
MOTEGI, Japan (April 29, 2005) - Dario Franchitti recorded a lap of 203.989 miles per hour (26.8249 seconds) in the #27 ArcaEx Dallara/Honda/Firestone during qualifying at the 1.5-mile oval at Twin Ring Motegi and will start from the eighth position for Saturday's running of the Indy Racing League® IndyCar® Series Indy Japan 300.
Franchitti was at a slight disadvantage as he was the fourth driver to make a qualification attempt. As the qualifications went on, weather conditions improved and speeds increased accordingly throughout the session.
The fourth event of the 2005 IndyCar Series season is set to go green at 12 a.m. (EDT) Saturday with ESPN providing tape-delayed broadcast coverage of the 200-lap event beginning at 12 p.m. (EDT).
Dario Franchitti, #27 ArcaEx Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"For qualifying, the temperature warmed up quite a bit since the morning practice session and that changed the track as well as the balance of the ArcaEx car. I'm disappointed in our qualifying effort, but we seemed to find a pretty good setup during the final warmup session and I'm confident that we'll have a good race car."
