Kanaan Qualifies Inside Row 2 at Indy Japan 300 in Team 7-Eleven Car
MOTEGI, Japan (April 20, 2007) -- Tony Kanaan, driver of the #11 Team 7-Eleven car, will start third for Saturday's running of the Indy Japan 300. Kanaan posted a best-lap speed of 204.777 miles per hour (26.7217 seconds) on the first lap of his qualifying attempt.
Tony Kanaan, #11 Team 7-Eleven Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"It was a solid run for Team 7-Eleven. It can always be better and I was expecting to be one-tenth quicker but Andretti Green Racing did a very good job. I think we have four good race cars. It's a long race and qualifying really means nothing at this track. I'm pretty confident that we have a strong car for the race."
Motorola Driver Patrick to Roll Off Fourth at Twin Ring Motegi
Motorola driver Danica Patrick turned in her best qualifying result since Sept. 15, 2005, and will start fourth in Saturday's running of the Indy Japan 300 at Twin Ring Motegi, round 3 of the 2007 IndyCar Series.
Patrick, who drives the #7 Motorola Dallara/Honda/Firestone for Andretti Green, posted a best-lap speed of 204.270 miles per hour (26.7881 seconds) on the 1.5-mile Twin Ring oval to grab a spot in Row 2 alongside teammate Tony Kanaan.
Danica Patrick, #7 Motorola Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"We came here to qualify on the pole, but ultimately the races are long and you can come from any position to win. The Motorola car felt very good, but having a car that can do it for 200 laps is another story and I think we've got that car. I expect to have a good race. I click pretty well with this track and have had solid races in the past. I really thought we had the fastest car here today, but that's alright. The Motorola car will start a little further back and make its way forward."
Franchitti to Start Seventh in the Indy Japan 300
Dario Franchitti drove the #27 Canadian Club car to a seventh place starting position in the Indy Japan 300. Franchitti posted a best-lap speed of 203.723 miles per hour (26.8600 seconds) on his first qualifying lap.
Dario Franchitti, #27 Canadian Club Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"The Canadian Club car has been okay this weekend. I was running wide open in the qualifying run. Our speed is missing in turns three and four. Out of the four Andretti Green cars, I think we have the most aggressive set up. We just have a bit of understeer, but we'll figure it out. Qualifying and the race are a lot different though. I think we are in good shape for the race tomorrow. I think all four Andretti Green cars will do well."
Andretti to Start 10th in NYSE Car at Japan
Marco Andretti, pilot of the #26 NYSE car, will start 10th in the Indy Japan 300. On the second lap of his qualifying attempt, Andretti scored a speed of 203.129 miles per hour (26.9386 seconds) during his qualifying attempt for Saturday's 200-lap event.
Marco Andretti, #26 NYSE Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"We took a lot of downforce out of the car and it was tough during that run. I couldn't get the car to go flat out. The first lap I had some understeer, so I did some things in the cockpit to adjust it and the next lap was worse. It was a bit of a bummer. I think we have a really good race car. We're in the middle of the pack, but I think the NYSE car will be alright."
