Panther Hits Milwaukee Mile On A Roll
Former Pole Sitter Meira Riding Streak of Three Consecutive Podiums
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (July 20, 2006) -- Revive Panther Racing enters this weekend's ABC Supply Co./ A.J. Foyt 225 at the Milwaukee Mile riding a streak of three consecutive podium finishes and eight straight Top Tens. Driver Vitor Meira was the pole sitter at the IndyCar Series' first race at the track's flat one-mile oval in 2004 and enters the weekend fifth in the championship standings.
Last season Panther finished third at Milwaukee with Tomas Scheckter, after both Scheckter (third) and Buddy Lazier (fifth) started inside the Top Five. Lazier was a substitute for Tomas Enge last year, who missed the race due to injury. Lazier finished 18th after an accident in pit road.
Vitor finished fifth at Milwaukee in 2004 after starting from the pole. He ended the race in ninth last year after starting 11th. Meira is currently amidst one of the hottest streaks of his career. In four of his last five starts the 29-year-old has finish in the top three. Vitor has impressed his new team with five Top Five finishes in his nine starts with the team. He has finished in the Top Five at each different track configuration where the IndyCar Series races: road course, Superspeedway and short oval.
Vitor Meira Quote:
"I like Milwaukee. I've done well there before and I remember how strong the Panther car was last year. It's not banked like Richmond, but I know that we're going to have a great car. The car I had at Richmond was the best short oval car I've ever driven and after that race I was excited about Milwaukee. This team has come together completely and we get pumped about every time we get to race."
