Scheckter Third Quick in Friday Milwaukee Practice

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Tomas Scheckter finished the first day of practice at the Milwaukee Mile Friday ranked third on the speed chart in preparation for Sunday's ABC Supply Co./A.J. Foyt 225. Buddy Lazier, who is subbing for an injured Tomas Enge this weekend in the No. 2 RockStar Chevrolet, made his return to short-ovals on Friday, and ranked 15th on the final chart.

Scheckter's top time was 165.390 mph, 22.0933 seconds. Lazier set a quick lap of 161.692 mph, 22.5985 seconds.

Scheckter started 8th last year, but finished 21st after a gearbox problem. Townsend Bell finished 6th in Panther's No. 2 Chevrolet a year ago at the Mile. This will be Buddy Lazier's first Indy Racing League start at the flat, one-mile oval, but the open-wheel veteran has extensive experience in Milwaukee in other series'.

Tomas Scheckter:

"During the first session we were completely out of it, but we stayed calm and tested a lot of new things. That's really what helped us in the seconds session because we had a good idea what was working and what wasn't working. I think we'll still be quicker tomorrow. The track feels a lot greasier than it did last year and our Pennzoil Chevy is moving around quite a lot, but we'll get our race setup right."

Buddy Lazier:

"I'm glad to be back with such a strong team. I enjoy working with these multiple car teams, and it's pretty clear the formula for success is with these two- and three-car teams. It's too bad I have this opportunity because Tomas (Enge) is hurt, but I'm glad they asked me to fill-in. Our car was pushing pretty bad in the first session, but we made some improvements and were much quicker this afternoon. "
