Patrick Leads the Panoz Pack in Milwaukee Practice
WEST ALLIS, WI - Danica Patrick continues to impress everyone in the Indy Racing League's IndyCar Series paddock. The rookie, coming to the only IRL track on which she's driven before claimed the sixth best speed in dual practices for Sunday's ABC Supply Co/AJ Foyt 225 on the historic Milwaukee Mile.
Patrick's best speed in her #16 Argent Mortgage/Pioneer Panoz/Honda/Firestone racer of 163.385mph came in the earlier morning session and she felt "pretty good about where we are at. We were pretty quick this morning so this afternoon we decided to focus on race setup."
Running the entire half-hour afternoon session with full tanks, Patrick discovered, "I really like the balance of our Panoz. I had to make a couple of adjustments with the weight jacker, but overall we were pretty much spot on.
"We have come a long way since our first day at Richmond and it's a good sign we are making progress as a team on the short ovals because that has been our weakness this season. It is vital," Patrick said, "to start up front and while I don't know if we can win the pole, at least we will be in the hunt."
Darren Manning was the quickest driver in the first group's afternoon practice, bringing the #10 Target Panoz/Toyota into the top ten in eighth with his lap of 163.020mph.
Vitor Meira's morning lap of 162.895mph gave the Brazilian ninth place and, even though he didn't practice much in the afternoon, "I am very pleased with our Panoz today. We concentrated a lot on race day setup and the car was very good in the afternoon. We know it is scheduled to be very hot on Sunday so we wanted to work on the car's handling on full tanks and used tires. Overall we learned a lot."
The weather wasn't a factor at all for today's practice sessions, which ran cleanly with only a single yellow for track inspection and one for a tow-in. Temperatures ranged in the mid-70s to low 80s amid mostly sunny skies.
The Indy cars have a single hour-long dual session practice in the morning and qualifying for the ABC Supply Co/AJ Foyt 225 commences at 12:35PM CDT.
