Milwaukee, WI (July 25, 2004) The Milwaukee Mile was home to solid finishes by both Red Bull Cheever Racing drivers in today's Menards A. J. Foyt Indy 225.
Throughout the 225-lap race, Alex Barron and his No. 51 crew moved steadily through the field from a 16th starting position to finish an outstanding 7th place.
"We made a lot of progress on our car throughout the weekend," Barron explained. "We were confident with our race setup and it showed. I was able to jump up some positions with great pit stops from my crew and had a great balance in traffic throughout the race."
Today was Barron's sixth race at The Milwaukee Mile in his racing career. In 1997 he brought home the checkered flag while racing in the Toyota Atlantics Series.
"I've always liked racing at Milwaukee," Barron said. "It's a very different track from any of the other ones we race on. I like racing on tracks that offer a new challenge for all the teams."
Teammate Ed Carpenter in the No. 52 Chevy-powered entry focused on playing a smart race and finished a solid 11th position in the 21-car starting field.
"I'm glad we finished the race and earned some good points," 23-year old Carpenter said. "Milwaukee is a challenging track, but I kept my focus and concentrated on keeping my line. My car was pretty good in traffic and I was able to keep my position in the pack with good, clean pit stops from the No. 52 crew."
The Red Bull Cheever Racing crew heads to Michigan International Speedway next weekend for the third consecutive race in a string of Indy Racing League IndyCar Series events.
Michigan International Speedway is the home of Barron's famous "spin and win" in 2003 where he beat out Sam Hornish Jr. for the coveted win on the 1.5-mile oval. Tune in as the California native defends his title on Sunday, August 1st.
