Franchitti Qualifies ArcaEx Car Seventh At Milwaukee

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (July 24, 2004) -Dario Franchitti recorded a lap of 167.312 miles per hour in the #27 ArcaEx Dallara/Honda/Firestone during qualifying this afternoon at The Milwaukee Mile, which earned him the seventh starting position for Sunday's running of the Indy Racing League® IndyCar® Series Menards A.J. Foyt Indy 225.

Franchitti, who will be shooting for his third top-five finish of the year, will be making his seventh starting appearance at the nation's oldest operating race track. Like everyone in the field, however, this will be his first Milwaukee start in an IndyCar Series machine.

Honda-powered machines took the top three positions for Sunday afternoon's event as Vitor Meira won the pole with a speed of 169.338 miles per hour, Team 7- Eleven teammate Tony Kanaan was second (168.597 miles per hour) and Buddy Rice (168.272 miles per hour) earned the third starting spot.

The Menards A.J. Foyt Indy 225, round nine of the 2004 IRL IndyCar Series, is set to go green at 3:45 p.m. (EDT) Sunday, with ABC Sports providing live broadcast coverage of the 225-lap event beginning at 3:30 p.m. (EDT).

Dario Franchitti, #27 ArcaEx Dallara/Honda/Firestone:

"The ArcaEx car felt very good, I didn't feel the wind at all, but I'm surprised it wasn't a slightly quicker lap time. I might have been in the wrong gear. With these 3.0-liter engines, it's critical to have the right gearing to maintain your momentum. I'm confident we'll have a good setup for the race, but we can finalize that during tomorrow morning's warm up."

Kyle Moyer, General Manager, #27 ArcaEx Dallara/Honda/Firestone:

"I thought the car would have been a little better than that. It showed to be a little better, we thought, but you can still win from seventh. Every time out, we keep getting better and better, so if we keep that going, we'll be okay."
