Matsuura Looking to Resume Pace at Michigan
Kosuke Matsuura will be preparing to make his fifth superspeedway career start this weekend as the IndyCar Series returns to Michigan International Speedway for the Firestone Indy 400. Matsuura had a strong showing in his first visit to the Brooklyn oval last season, claiming the second-fastest time overall in pre-race practice activities and a front row starting position. He ran with the lead pack throughout most of the 200-lap race, but contact in the latter stages required a green-flag pit stop to replace a damaged front wing setting Matsuura a lap down.
* Will be making his second start at Michigan and 27th IndyCar Series career start
* Started second at Michigan last year and finished 17th
* Recorded best finish to date this season of seventh at Texas
* Best starting position to date this season was seventh at St. Petersburg
* Career best finish to date was fourth at Kentucky last season
* Currently sits 14th in the point standings
Kosuke Matsuura, #55 Panasonic ARTA Panoz/Honda/Firestone:
"We were very strong at Michigan last year. We had an eventful race -- too eventful -- and I am looking forward to getting the result we missed out on. In 200 laps, a lot can happen, but I feel very confident going in. The racing is always exciting at Michigan, and I think the fans will see another great show."
