Race Distance: 400 miles (200 laps around the two-mile superspeedway oval).

Firehawk Race Tires Supplied: Firestone delivered 888 Firehawk racing radials for use this weekend. Each IndyCar Series entry receives up to nine sets of tires (36 total) to use as its team sees fit for practice, qualifying and the race. Superspeedway tires are the most durable, or "hardest," in the Firestone Racing line because - in comparison to smaller oval tracks - they must absorb the greatest constant speeds and higher g-force loads in the corners. This will be the first race-weekend appearance for this particular tire compound/construction formula, though it was utilized in February for the IRL's "Test in the West" at California Speedway.

Winning Weekend for Firestone at MIS: Firestone serves as title sponsor of this weekend's IndyCar Series event, an announcement that was made July 2. In addition, Sunday marks the climactic conclusion to the Firehawk Indy 500/Chevrolet Race 2 Win Sweepstakes. Five finalists were selected randomly from entries received, with all receiving free trips to the race weekend. Before Sunday's Firestone Indy 400, one finalist will turn the key to win a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 four-wheel drive Fleetside extended cab truck equipped with Firestone tires (valued at $34,405), and a second finalist will win a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu four-door LS sedan fitted with Firestone tires (valued at $21,248).

Quote from Al Speyer, Executive Director, Firestone Racing: "For the second consecutive weekend, Firestone is showing its strong support of the Indy Racing League in the form of title sponsorship for a race. MIS is a track special to us because it was here, almost exactly eight years ago, that Firestone gained its first victory following our return to open-wheel racing that season. Firestone has won every open-wheel competition at MIS since that memorable day in 1995, and we'll be excited to crown another MIS race winner in Sunday's Firestone Indy 400. The race tires for this weekend display another aspect of Firestone's commitment to the sport because they were built at the Bridgestone Technical Center in Tokyo. The tremendous collaboration and cooperation between the Tokyo and Akron tech centers is another reason why our racing program has been so successful these eight years and running."

The Official Tire of the IRL: Firestone is the exclusive tire supplier to the Indy Racing League for both the IndyCar and Infiniti Pro series. The Infiniti Pro Series conducts the seventh of its 12-race schedule with Sunday's Michigan 100 at Michigan International Superspeedway.
