Matsuura Pleased with Homestead Tests
Sets Fourth Quickest Time in Oval Outing
Kosuke Matsuura claimed the fourth fastest time of the day as the IRL IndyCar® Series concluded its first Open Test of 2005. Teams and drivers moved to familiar territory today -- Homestead-Miami Speedway's 1.5-mile, high-banked oval -- after two days of testing on the Homestead road course.
Matsuura, who set the eighth fastest time overall during the road course session, ended his first oval test in preparation for the start of the new season just 0.0721 seconds off the fastest time set by fellow Honda driver Buddy Rice. Scott Sharp, of sister team Delphi Fernandez Racing, posted the second fastest time in his first outing with the team.
Matsuura, the 2004 Bombardier Rookie of the Year, and Super Aguri Fernandez Racing will head to Phoenix the second week of February as the IndyCar Series conducts its second Open Test of the season at Phoenix International Raceway on February 9 and 10.
Kosuke Matsuura, #55 Panasonic ARTA Panoz/Honda/Firestone:
"The time was good and the team did a very good job again today. I had quite a big push in Turns Three and Four, but we solved the problem. I am very happy, and really looking forward to the Homestead race. I was the quickest Panoz/Honda on the road course and eighth fastest, and today fourth quickest overall. I think we really improved a lot. Adrian [Fernandez] was also teaching me a lot of things today. For me, everything is improving -- the team and the driver."
