SHARP TAKES FOURTH PLACE; TOUGH DAY FOR DISMORE
1999 Pep Boys Indy Racing League Championship - Round 10 Vegas.Com 500 Las Vegas Motor Speedway / Las Vegas, Nevada Race Report -- Sunday, September 26, 1999
NOTES AND QUOTES:
On a blistering hot day at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Kelley Racing driver Scott Sharp piloted his #8 Delphi Automotive Systems car to a fourth place finish. The team made adjustments throughout the race in an effort to help Sharp break the top five. Sharp clocked a best speed of 201.620 mph. Teammate Mark Dismore became entangled in a race incident on lap 106 that ended the Greenfield, Ind., native's day. Sharp's fourth place win has propelled him to 4th place in the championship standings, while Dismore is currently in 11th.
#8 Scott Sharp, Delphi Automotive Systems/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear (Finished -- 4th; Championship Standings ): "We didn't do too bad today. I'm quite pleased with a fourth place finish. The car ended the race being really consistent. We had to make a few adjustments throughout the race, but we were able to get the car to do what we wanted. We battled a lot of obstacles this race weekend. I'm so proud of the Delphi team. They stepped up to the plate and pulled me through. We had great pit stops today, and I feel that was really key to our success. I'm happy with a top five. Now, we need to turn our focus to Texas next month and look to finish up front there."
#28 Mark Dismore, MCI WorldCom/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear (Finished -- 20th; Championship Standings ): "I'm very disappointed. The MCI WorldCom car was running really consistent. We were on our program to make the car last until the end. Unfortunately, sometimes racing has accidents. We got caught up in one today. We'll have to look forward to Texas and take the MCI WorldCom car to a good finish. I'd really like to complete the season on a positive and high note."
The next and final race action for Kelley Racing will be Sunday, October 17 at the Texas Motor Speedway. Live television coverage can be seen on ABC.
