SPARTA, Kentucky -- Qualifying for the AMBER Alert Portal Indy 300 at the Kentucky Speedway has been officially rained out. Indy Racing League officials have announced the starting grid will be established by using the fastest times from both IndyCar practice sessions earlier in the day. Vision Racing and driver, Ed Carpenter, will start in 22nd position, outside of row 11. Carpenter and the #20 Dallara/Toyota/Firestone logged a top speed of 213.425 mph in practice for the AMBER Alert Portal 300.

Starting from the rear of the field is no surprise to the team as race setup has been the focus for the entire weekend. The top priority of the practice session was to create a good racecar that was responsive and handled well in traffic. A private manufacturer's test the week before allowed Carpenter and crew to develop a feel for the track and better understand what they need for tomorrow's race. Today's practice sessions were a continuation of that test and the team is optimistic about the car's race potential.

Ed Carpenter, #20 Dallara/Toyota/Firestone:

On Car and Starting Position:
"We know coming into these mile and a half tracks that we're not going to be starting in the top half of the field anyway. So, it doesn't really make much sense for us to go out there and work on a bunch of qualifying stuff, because we are going to be starting from the middle to the back of the pack. At the test and this weekend we have been working on making sure we have a good racecar so I can draft, work the track, move around and be comfortable. Tomorrow's warm-up we'll work on it some more and verify that what we have is good."
