VISION RACING TO START ALL THREE CARS IN TOP-10 FOR FIRST TIME THIS SEASON
SPARTA, Kentucky -- For the first time in the 2007 IndyCar Series season, Vision Racing will start all three drivers in the top-10. While qualifying for the Meijer Indy 300 on the 1.5-mile oval of Kentucky Speedway, team drivers Tomas Scheckter, Ed Carpenter and A.J. Foyt IV earned the sixth, ninth and tenth starting spots, respectively.
The three top-10 starts for tomorrow's race make for a total of 15 top-10 starts on the season between Scheckter (8), Carpenter (4) and Foyt (3). The trio will be looking to add to the team's 14 top-10 finishes this season, including their most recent in Foyt's eighth place finish last weekend at Michigan International Speedway.
Speaking of last weekend, Scheckter matched his sixth place starting spot, as well as ties his best start of the 2007 IndyCar Series season.
Driving the No. 2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone, Scheckter is currently 11th in the IndyCar Series point standings. His best finish at Kentucky in five starts came just last year with Vision Racing when he drove all the way from a 17th starting spot to take seventh. Scheckter has seven top-10 finishes on the season thus far.
Carpenter and the No. 20 Hitachi Power Tools special are enjoying their second straight top-10 starting spot. He has three previous starts at Kentucky with a best finish of eighth in 2004.
Carpenter is looking for his fifth top-10 finish on the season and is currently 14th in the point standings.
Starting 10th, Foyt is well on his way to earning his second-straight top-10 finish in tomorrow's race. His eighth place finish last weekend bumped he and the No. 22 Honda powered Dallara up to 15th in the point standings.
Foyt also has three prior starts at Kentucky with his best finish coming in 2005 with a ninth place run.
The 200-lap, 300-mile Meijer Indy 300 will air live on Sunday, August 11th, at 6:30 p.m. (EDT) on ESPN2, IMS Radio Network, XM Satellite Radio channel 145 and on the web at www.IndyCar.com.
Tomas Scheckter -- No. 2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
On qualifying: "So far so good. I think we've got a pretty good car. Maybe not quite as good as last weekend at Michigan, but still it's pretty good and it's shows what a great effort the team is putting in. I think we are going to be really competitive and I'm certainly looking forward to tomorrow."
Ed Carpenter -- No. 20 Hitachi Power Tools/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
On qualifying: "We worked on race setup a lot today and the quickest that I could go on my own was about 214.9 mph, so we had a nice pickup for qualifying. So I'm pretty happy with that and I think that's going to put us in a good position for tomorrow night's race. We've got a fairly good race car put together so I'm looking forward to it."
A.J. Foyt IV -- No. 22 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
On qualifying: "It was a little disappointing. We went faster in practice so it was frustrating to come out here and run slower without making any real significant changes to the car. The changes that we did make we should have gone faster, but it doesn't always work out like that, I guess. We'll just take our time and it's going to be a decent qualifying position that will put us up there with a good bunch of guys. So we'll just be ready tomorrow to go racing."
