KITE'S TOP 10 FINISH AT KENTUCKY EQUALS TEAM'S BEST
Sparta, KY, August 14, 2005 - Jimmy Kite and Ethanol Hemelgarn Racing were back in action this weekend at the Kentucky Speedway for the Amber Alert Portal Indy 300. The team capitalized on recent momentum and brought home their first top-10 finish since original driver Paul Dana finished 10th in the season opener.
The #91 Ethanol-sponsored Dallara/Toyota/Firestone entry started 20th after Friday's qualifying session was rained out. The team picked up spots on each of their first three pit stops and ran competitively the entire race, finishing on the lead lap for the first time this season. Kite secured the top 10 finish with some aggressive driving at the final restart, passing three cars in the last 10 laps.
"I love this track," Kite said. "Last time I was here I was leading with 40 laps to go when my engine blew. This is the best finish for me in this car. We've been needing this all year. We've been given some good finishes this year; this one we earned. That was fun."
Team owner Ron Hemelgarn was extremely pleased with the result. "It's great. We're making gains every week. We raced every lap. There weren't any gifts in this race."
Kite made his eighth IndyCar start of the year since replacing the rookie Dana, who was injured practicing for the Indianapolis 500.
Next up will be the Honda Indy 225 on Sunday, August 21, 2005 at Pikes Peak International Raceway. The 225-mile race will start at 3:30 PM (EDT) and can be seen on ABC.
