Sparta, KY - Eddie Cheever Jr. and his #51 Excite@Home team struggled during Friday practice for the penultimate round of the 2000 Indy Racing Northern Light Series championship, the Belterra Resort Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway. Cheever is currently second in the Indy Racing standings with 185 points, only twenty-three points behind series leader Buddy Lazier.

The 1998 Indianapolis 500 Champion captured the first victory for the #51 Excite@Home Indy Race Team, the first win for the Infiniti Indy engine, and his first win of the 2000 season at the sixth round of the Indy Racing Northern Light Series at Pikes Peak (CO) in June. Cheever, who has finished in the top eleven in six of seven Indy Racing events this season, has also led five of the seven rounds of 2000 competition.

Eddie Cheever Jr. (on the first day of practice): "Somehow we've lost 1.5mph since we tested here last week. We're not sure where we've gone wrong. We'll be poring over the data tonight to try to get our speed back." Primary Sponsorship of the #51 Indy Car comes from Excite@Home. The company is based in Redwood City, California, at the heart of Silicon Valley. Associate Sponsors of Team Cheever include Infiniti, Firestone, Indy Promotional Products, Menards, Bosch, and Pennzoil.
