Sparta, KY. (8/14/04) Red Bull Cheever Racing looks to move through the field in tomorrow's Belterra Casino Indy 300 after qualifying 14th and 17th.
Ed Carpenter drove his No. 52 Red Bull Cheever Racing entry to the 14th starting position with a speed of 212. 976 mph.
"We backed up what we did in practice today, but we're still a long way from where we want to be," said the 23-year-old Carpenter. "We've been heading in the right direction with the last couple of races though. We're concentrating on getting a good racecar for tomorrow so we can run well in traffic."
Alex Barron will start his Chevy-powered No. 51 car in the 17th position with a speed of 212.051 mph.
"The car was well-balanced, but we just didn't have the speed," said Barron. "We'll need to make sure we can pass high and low on the track and stay in the thick of things in order to finish towards the front of the pack."
During the two morning practice sessions both drivers not only worked on qualifying setup, but also prepared for the race. In the combined practice session results Barron was the top Chevy lapping the 1.5-mile oval, while Carpenter was hot on his heels as the third quickest Chevy-powered entry.
"We had a really good race car in traffic during practice today, so I'm happy about that because it's a good preview for how our car will be in race traffic," said Barron of Menifee, CA.
Tune in to watch Red Bull Cheever Racing motor its way through the field on ABC at 3:30 p.m. (EDT) in the Belterra Casino Indy 300.
