INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (August 12, 2003) -- Bryan Herta is excited heading into this weekend's Indy Racing League (IRL) IndyCarTM Series event at Kentucky Speedway. Herta, who pilots the #27 Archipelago/Motorola Dallara/Honda/Firestone, is coming off a successful test at the 1.5-mile track in Sparta, Ky., and a race win at Kansas Speedway, a track very similar to Kentucky.
Though the team has failed to finish at the last two races, they are still confident heading into the Belterra Casino Indy 300 because the race car was fast during both events before falling out.
Though it will be Herta's first time competing at Kentucky, the Archipelago/Motorola team should have a solid base of knowledge to work from. Besides Herta's test there last week, Andretti Green Racing drivers Dan Wheldon and Tony Kanaan were first and third quickest, respectively, during an IRL Open Test at the facility in late June with Wheldon unofficially eclipsing the track record held by Sarah Fisher.
Qualifying for the Belterra Casino Indy 300 will take place on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. (EDT). The race is set for Sunday 2 p.m. (EDT) and will be broadcast live on ABC.
Bryan Herta, #27 Archipelago/Motorola Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"I'm looking forward to racing at Kentucky. I've tested there a couple of times and it seems to be a two-or three-groove race track which should be good for racing. It's shaped like the track in Kansas and the Archipelago/Motorola car was good there and we had a good result, so hopefully we can repeat that."
Kyle Moyer, Team Manager, Archipelago/Motorola
"The Kentucky race track is very similar to Kansas so we should have a pretty good starting point for our setup. The key to the race is being able to drive any line of the race track without lifting off the throttle. If we can get our car right we will have a chance at another win."
