Although Kelley Racing drivers Mark Dismore and Scott Sharp didn't top Friday's speed charts, they're confident about their chances to win the Excite 500. Dismore and Sharp placed 18th and 20h respectively; however, both cars were less than four tenths of a second off the fastest speed of Jeff Ward. As usual at Kelley Racing, the primary focus of first day practice is to establish a baseline race setup.

Mark Dismore #28 OnStar/Bryant Dallara/Oldsmobile 212.504 mph: "Our car isn't handling bad, we've had a little push on corner exit, which is scrubbing some speed. When I was drafting and running side-by-side with people, I could hang with them, but we still haven't hit on the combination to just blow right by them yet. These OnStar guys are working their hearts out, and I'm sure we'll get it sorted out by the race."

Scott Sharp #8 Delphi/Worldcom Dallara/Oldsmobile 212.168 mph: "I'm not worried that we're not showing speed in today's practice. The Delphi car is handling good, and the bumps on the track are a lot better than when we were here in June. I started mid-pack here and at Atlanta before and have come to the front quickly. We'll just let the race sort that out."

Practice continues tomorrow, and MBNA pole qualifying is at 1 p.m. EDT followed by the final practice at 5 p.m. EDT. The Excite 500 starts at 2p.m. and can be seen at 4 p.m. EDT on Sunday and can be seen live on ABC.
