RADISSON 200 Pikes Peak International Raceway Fountain, Colorado Qualifying Report – Saturday, June 26, 1999
Kelley Racing drivers Mark Dismore and Scott Sharp qualified third and 17th for tomorrow’s Radisson 200 at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colorado. Dismore, in the #28 MCI WorldCom/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear car, clocked a best speed of 175.106 mph and a lap time of 20.559 seconds. This was the Greenfield, Ind., native’s fastest lap speed all weekend long.
Teammate Scott Sharp, driving the #8 Delphi Automotive/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear car, finished in 17th position with a best lap speed of 170.932 mph and a lap time of 21.061 seconds. Prior to qualifying, the Delphi team made a wing adjustment and a gear change hoping it would make for an increase in speed. But, the changes weren’t enough to balance the car.
Race action starts at noon (MDT) Sunday, June 27. A LIVE televised broadcast can be seen on FOX Sports Net. Check local listings for accurate times.
QUALIFYING QUOTES: #8 Scott Sharp, Delphi Automotive Systems/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear car: “We made a few adjustments to the Delphi car this morning. Right before qualifying, we made a wing adjustment and a gear change. The wing change was in the right direction, but it just wasn’t enough. I’m very surprised at how much push we picked up during the qualifying session. I’m disappointed. We’ll have to really focus for tomorrow’s race.”
#28 Mark Dismore, MCI WorldCom/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear car: “The MCI WorldCom car was a little loose out there during qualifying. I’m happy for the MCI WorldCom team. We’ve been working hard all weekend long. I was a little surprised we ran so fast out there today. Yesterday, we were running a little bit off, but the car was handling extremely well. Tomorrow’s going to be a tough day. It’s going to be competitive and the track will be very hard on everything. It will be a grueling race.” ###
