FRANCHITTI BATTLES TO FOURTH-PLACE FINISH AT KANSAS
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (July 3, 2005) - ArcaEx driver Dario Franchitti raced to a fourth-place finish in Sunday's running of the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series Argent Mortgage Indy 300 at Kansas Speedway.
Franchitti started the event from sixth place and immediately moved forward, climbing into second place by lap 10. He kept the #27 ArcaEx machine among the lead pack throughout the event, battling teammates Tony Kanaan and Dan Wheldon, as well as with Tomas Scheckter and Vitor Meira. The ArcaEx crew aided the cause by continually providing efficient service during his four visits to pit lane, three of which came under green-flag conditions.
Franchitti made his final stop on lap 190, taking on just enough fuel to make it to the finish of the 200-lap event, and rejoined the race in fifth place. He was able to make up one position over the final nine laps to come home in fourth place.
Kanaan went on to earn the victory, his first of the 2005 season, with Wheldon second, Meira third and Scheckter finishing fifth.
The fourth-place finish elevates Franchitti to fourth in the driver point's standings with 219, 11 shy of third place Helio Castroneves.
Next up for Franchitti and the rest of the IndyCar Series teams is the Firestone Indy 200 at Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday, July 16. The event will be televised live by ESPN, beginning at 7 p.m. (EDT). It can also be heard live by XM Satellite Radio subscribers by tuning into Extreme XM, channel 152.
Dario Franchitti, #27 ArcaEx Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"I'm disappointed with our result. We're losing time somewhere, but I'm not sure exactly where it is. The car is plenty fast enough, but we're losing time somewhere and we've got to figure it out. I don't think it's the ArcaEx boys; they're giving me quick stops."
Allen McDonald, Race Engineer, #27 ArcaEx Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"Obviously we are happy for Tony, Dan and the entire Andretti Green Racing team. The ArcaEx team had a great weekend and I think if we would have had a couple of extra laps, we could have been right up there with them. It was an exciting race and something we can use going forward to Nashville."
