Target Team Ready to Take a Kick at the Kansas Speedway
Kansas City, Kansas, June 30th, 2004--Target Chip Ganassi Racing gets set to take on the 1.5 mile tri-oval at Kansas Raceway for the Argent Mortgage Indy 300 this Fourth of July race weekend. With the busiest part of the 2004 IndyCar season just beginning, (eight races in ten weeks), Target drivers Scott Dixon and Darren Manning are looking to leave Kansas with a good result and valuable points to build some momentum through the hot summer race schedule.
Target has performed well at Kansas Speedway in the past, taking over the front row on the grid in 2003, but having to settle for two top ten finishes due to fuel pick up problems.
"The Target team had a good run at Kansas last year," said Scott Dixon who is fifth in the driver standings. "I won the pole and the Target cars started 1-2. Darren (Manning) and I will look to do the same this year. You can't help but look forward to a Fourth of July weekend in Kansas. It's flat out racing and the fans really get up for it. I'm fifth in the championship and the Toyota / Panoz G-Force has been reliable, we just need to be a little more consistent, get some good results under our belts and we'll be right up there where we should be.
"The last four races I've had one of the quickest cars out there and I truly believe we've had a chance of winning every single one of them." said Darren Manning who unfortunately saw his race end prematurely in Richmond. "We've just had some miserable luck and the end result these last few races just isn't indicative of what this Target team can do. I am still pretty upbeat though because the team has given me some really great cars. While I really don't know the Kansas track, I'm looking forward to it because I know the team will put together another strong Toyota/ Panoz G Force to get me up to the front."
Target Chip Ganassi Racing fans can watch the seventh race in 16-race 2004 season, the Argent Mortgage Indy 300 at Kansas Raceway, LIVE on Sunday, the Fourth of July at 12:30 pm (EDT) on ABC or they can listen in on the IMS Radio Network.
