Kansas Speedway, KS (July 4, 2004) -- Red Bull Cheever Racing's American duo crossed the finish line at Kansas Speedway with Alex Barron in 10th and Ed Carpenter in 14th position.
The Argent Mortgage Indy 300, round 7 of 16 races, ran for 169 consecutive laps under the green flag, with only two caution flags during the entire 200-lap race.
"We really stuck with it," Barron said. "It was a long, hard day since we ran under green for almost the entire race."
Barron and his No. 51 crew brought home a top-ten finish on the hot and humid Fourth of July holiday. In Barron's only previous run at Kansas Speedway, he also earned a top-ten finish with an eighth place result in 2002.
"We managed our fuel well and the Red Bull Cheever Racing crew gave me great pit stops," Barron explained. "We're headed in the right direction, we just need to keep on trying to find more speed."
Rookie teammate Ed Carpenter in the No. 52 Chevy-powered Dallara stayed focused throughout the 200-lap race earning a 14th place finish and ending a 5-race string of DNF results.
"It was a really long day, but at least we finished the race," Carpenter said. "I didn't feel like a race car driver during this race. I was just riding around counting laps because we couldn't keep up in the draft. We just got lost every time cars came around and passed us."
Carpenter previously ran at the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway in the Infiniti Pro Series, finishing in 2nd and 5th in the past two years.
The next stop on the IRL IndyCar Series Schedule is set under the lights on July 17th Nashville SuperSpeedway. Watch Red Bull Cheever Racing live on ESPN at 7p.m.(EDT). The race will be broadcast by ESPN2 on a tape-delayed basis on July 18.
