SPARTA, KY (November 10) -- Cold, wet conditions at Kentucky Speedway forced Pennzoil Panther Racing to postpone its Indy Racing League rookie tests for Kasey Kahne and two other United States Auto Club champions Wednesday and Thursday. Kahne, Derek Davidson and Tracy Hines were ready to drive Panther Racing's Pennzoil Panther Dallara/Aurora, but inclement weather kept them off the 1.5-mile track. Passing the four-stage test which would have allowed them to participate in the Indy Racing Northern Light Series. Panther Racing officials said the tests will be rescheduled, but haven't determined the dates or facilities yet. The tests are part of a driver development program sponsored by Pennzoil and Panther Racing which gives top USAC drivers IRL rookie tests. Kahne, the 20-year-old driver from Enumclaw, WA, clinched the USAC/MCI WorldCom Midget Car Series championship with a 10th-place finish in the Sammy Sessions Memorial at Winchester Speedway October 22nd. He leads Jay Drake by 217 points with races in Bakersfield, CA, (November 18th) and Irwindale, CA, (November 23rd) remaining on the schedule. A fourth-placed finish in the Memphis 100 USAC Coors Light Silver Bullet Race at Memphis Motorsports Park October 29th gave Kahne 10th place in the point standings and the Oliver Trucking Rookie of the year award. Kahne finished 13th in the USAC/Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Series standings despite racing in only 14 of the 19 races.
