Indy Racing League officials announced today at the Chicagoland Speedway the formation of the Indy Racing Infiniti Pro Series a support series for the Northern Light Series.

The cars will be powered by a 3.5 liter production based Infiniti Q45 engine developing 450 horsepower running on gasoline. Chassis will be constructed by Dallara and will come with a spec Pi data acquisition system.

The series is expected to hold their inaugural race in June of 2002 with a total of six or seven races during the first season. A full schedule of 12 races is expected for 2003. While the inaugural season will be held on oval tracks, Brain Barnhart, Indy Racing League Vice President of Operations, did not rule out road circuits in the future.
