NISMO to Sponsor Hattori at Bradley Motorsports
GARDENA, Calif. (March 13, 2002) - Japanese driver Shigeaki Hattori will use the Infiniti Indy 35A engine starting at the Yamaha Indy 400 at California Speedway on March 24. Hattori will drive for Bradley Motorsports for the 2002 Indy Racing League series.
In addition to primary sponsorship from EPSON America, Inc., Hattori will also be backed by NISMO, the motorsports division of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. in Japan.
"I am very excited to be working with Bradley Motorsports," said Hattori. "I am proud to be representing, not only EPSON, but also Infiniti. The Infiniti Indy engine has proven to be very powerful, and I believe it will be the dominant engine in the IRL soon. I think this will be my best opportunity for success in the IRL."
Hattori started racing in the Indy Racing League in 2000. His best IRL result is seventh at both Nashville and Kentucky in 2001. He has lived in the U.S. since 1995 racing in the Formula Atlantic, Indy Lights and CART series. He started his career racing go-karts and formula cars in Japan, winning the Formula Toyota Esso Challenge Cup championship in 1994.
"We are pleased to welcome Shigeaki and Bradley Motorsports to the Infiniti family," said Bernard Dudot, Indy Racing program manager for Infiniti Division. "Infiniti, and Nissan worldwide, has the goal of becoming the first Japanese automotive manufacturer to win the Indianapolis 500. Having Shigeaki on the Infiniti team is a great opportunity for Nissan to further build excitement for the Indy Racing League in Japan."
Infiniti participates in the Indy Racing League to reinforce the performance attributes of the Infiniti line of vehicles. In addition to the design and development of the winning Infiniti Indy V8 engine, the company also provides the Q45 engine for the Infiniti Pro Series.
