Indianapolis, IN: Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Arie Luyendyk qualified 6th and rookie Felipe Giaffone qualified 20th for the 85th running of the Indianapolis 500 today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Luyendyk posted a four lap average of 224.257 MPH in his #5 Meijer/G-Force/Oldsmobile/Firestone entry and Giaffone ran 221.100 MPH in his #21 Hollywood/G-Force/Oldsmobile/Firestone for Treadway-Hubbard Racing.

"I'm a little disappointed," said Luyendyk. "I think the motor was going away and it overheated during my last lap which cost us some speed. Still, it's great to be back and I know I'm still competitive. Starting on the outside of row two is still good for the race. The Treadway-Hubbard team has given me a great race car so now we'll relax a little and hope for the best for the race."

"I feel pretty good right now," said Giaffone. "The car had a pretty big push that caused us to scrub some speed, but overall the car was good. I'm really anxious to see how tomorrow's qualifying goes, but the team says I'm good with my speed. This place is pretty amazing. I think I'll feel better when the final field is set next week."

Giaffone is currently fifth in the INDY Racing Northern Light Series season points championship with three consecutive top ten finishes in the first three series events. The Indianapolis 500 is scheduled to be Luyendyk's only INDY Racing event this year. The team will fly to Richmond to test Monday and Tuesday before returning to Indianapolis to continue practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Wednesday.
