Indianapolis, IN: The Treadway-Hubbard Racing team with driver's Arie Luyendyk and rookie Felipe Giaffone have run strong in each of the first four days of practice. Luyendyk, who dodged a bullet Tuesday afternoon after spinning through turn one avoiding flying debris of Casey Mear's car, has consistently been in the top five in speeds. Rookie Felipe Giaffone has made consistent gains posting a top speed of 222.0 mph yesterday which earned him the tenth place overall yesterday.
"I was lucky," said Luyendyk of his near miss on Tuesday. "Other than that, it has been good so far. The car is good and I can run fast on my own which is what you need for qualifying. I am pretty comfortable right now and Tim, Skip and the Treadway-Hubbard team are giving me a great car. I am looking forward to qualifying Saturday."
Luyendyk's best speed is 223.9 mph in his #5 Meijer/G-Force/Oldsmobile Firestone entry.
"I am pretty happy right now," said Giaffone. "I was a little concerned yesterday morning because this place is so tricky but then I went out and felt really good with the car. We ran 222 mph on our own and I know there is more in the car. We are right on plan and I am just looking forward to a good qualifying run on Saturday. The team has done a great job for me and it is great to have Arie as a teammate."
Giaffone is currently fifth in the championship point's standings in his #21 Hollywood/G-Force/Oldsmobile/Firestone entry for Treadway-Hubbard Racing and leading the Northern Light Series Rookie of the Year standings. The team will continue practice Thursday and Friday before making their qualifying runs for the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing," the Indianapolis 500 on Saturday.
