Indianapolis-May 12- Jaques Lazier earned a solid position in the 2001 Indy500 field with a 222.3 mph pass in the #77 Classmates.com - Jonathan Byrd Cafeteria car. Jaques has proven to the world of motorsports that he has maintained his solid driving abilities since his last Indy racing appearance where he finished 13th in 2000. His last IRL appearance resulted in a top 10 finish at the Texas Motor Speedway in the final event of the 2000 season.
"I have put out 110 percent since the first time I was able to get back in the racecar," says Jaques. "I want to thank Classmates.com for their gracious sponsorship, and the best way for me to show my appreciation is by competing for a win and giving them exposure. Their sponsorship has allowed us to put together a top quality car capable of providing the kind of results that a competitive group like TeamXtreme expects."
After a strong qualifying session, Jaques and the crew are taking gradual steps to prepare the optimal race setup that will provide a balanced, predictable car. "We are considering some adjustments with the car depending upon the weather conditions, but the RPM Engineering motors themselves have been very dependable and have put out the power needed for a good qualifying session," says Jaques. "I am happy with my qualification session, but we must remain focused to capitalize on today's small step toward a great showing here at the Indy 500."
