May 12-Indianapolis, Indiana- Jaques Lazier started off the month of May on the right foot. While sporting his red Puma race shoes, Jaques climbed his way to the top of the practice charts.

After some light hearted harassment from the crew, he decided to change his shoes that stuck out like a sore thumb. Unfortunately, after switching to a black pair of shoes that matched his uniform, his performance on the track began to dwindle.

"It was time to go back to my lucky shoes," says Jaques. "Last year when I wore those red shoes, my qualification times improved and the shoes have worked for me ever since."

In the last practice session before qualifying, Jaques posted the second fastest speed of his group with a 223 mph pass.

"I know that takes more than luck to win races," says Jaques. "Even though Jonathan Byrd-TeamXtreme has only been together for three weeks, we have the communication, team work and strategy to be successful and right now that is showing. But a little good luck couldn't hurt, either."

The team no longer gives Jaques a hard time about his mismatched race uniform. "Now I only allow him to wear the red shoes," says general manager John Lopes. "We have a saying in the garage, 'red shoes stay.'
