Indianapolis, Ind. (May 7, 2001) -- Eddie Cheever Jr. and Robbie Buhl both posted one of the top ten fastest speeds in the second day of practice for the Indianapolis 500 today.

Cheever, who drove 43 laps in the No. 51 Excite@Home Infiniti, was sixth fastest of the day with a 220.037 mph lap. His run successfully completed a 510-mile engine test with the latest specification of Infiniti 35A engine.

Robbie Buhl was ninth fastest with a 219.621 mph lap in the No. 24 Team Purex/Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Infiniti. Scott Goodyear was only able to drive eight laps in the No. 52 Cheever Indy Racing Infiniti before a rain storm curtailed his practice session.

It was the second consecutive day that practice ended early due to rain. Today's storm came earlier in the day than yesterday, forcing officials to close the track at 3:00 p.m. local time.

Practice for the Indianapolis 500 on May 27 continues tomorrow from Noon to 7 p.m. (EDT).

Eddie Cheever Jr., No. 51 Excite@Home Dallara-Infiniti: "We did some more work on the car for today but we're very unhappy with how it is handling. We can't get the back end to settle down. On a more positive note, we mileaged-out another Infiniti engine - this is the third 35A that we have put more than 500 miles on - and that's very encouraging. Scott was hoping to run his #52 car in the afternoon, but only got in eight laps before the downpour."

Robbie Buhl, No. 24 Team Purex Dreyer & Reinbold Racing GForce-Infiniti: "Everything is going good. The engine is pulling really strong. We are going to take a break from running tomorrow in order to get our new G Force chassis ready. We are anxious to see how this new car does on track."

Scott Goodyear, No. 52 Cheever Indy Racing Dallara-Infiniti: "From my standpoint, we didn't accomplish a whole lot today. I would have liked to have gone out there and done a little bit more running. We made one minor change over night and it would have been nice to get a read on that but we got caught out by the thunderstorm. The weather rolled in a lot quicker than we thought it would. Eddie got some work done today and ran well again, and my anticipation was to get out there and have both cars in the top five again but we only got a couple of laps in before the rain came in and drenched us."
